Switching NDIS providers · Inner West & South Sydney

You can switch NDIS providers
anytime. Here’s how.

Switching is your right under the NDIS. You don’t need your current provider’s permission. You don’t need approval from the NDIA. There is no penalty. Here’s what you actually need to do.

The four steps to change NDIS providers

  1. Check your notice period. Your current service agreement will specify how much notice you must give — usually 2 to 4 weeks. If you don’t have a copy, ask your plan manager or contact Tegrity and we’ll help you find it.
  2. Find your new provider first — before you give notice. This is the step most people skip. If you give notice first, you may end up without support during the gap. Confirm your new provider can start before you put anything in writing.
  3. Give written notice to your current provider. A simple email is enough. You don’t need to explain yourself or justify your reasons. We’ve written a template below you can copy directly.
  4. Let your plan manager or support coordinator know. They will update your service bookings and ensure the funding is transferred correctly. If you self-manage, you will need to cancel the current booking in the myplace portal.

Notice email template — copy and send

You do not need to write a formal letter. This email covers everything your current provider needs:

Sample notice email

Subject: Notice to end service agreement — [Your name]

Hi [Provider name],

I am writing to give notice that I would like to end my service agreement,
effective [date — usually today's date + your notice period].

Please confirm you have received this notice and let me know the date
my agreement will formally end.

Thank you,
[Your name]
[NDIS number if you have it handy]

That’s it. You are not required to give a reason. If they push back or ask you to reconsider, you are within your rights to decline.

What Tegrity does to make the switch easy

We have handled a lot of transitions from other providers. The most common problem is the gap — the period between when your old provider ends and your new one starts. We close that gap deliberately.

  • We schedule your first shift to begin before your current provider’s agreement ends, so there is no break in support.
  • We handle the paperwork — service agreement, NDIS booking, plan manager notification — so you don’t have to coordinate it yourself.
  • Every referral is acknowledged same business day, in writing, with a clear next step.
  • You meet your worker before supports begin. No strangers at the door.

If you’re thinking about switching NDIS providers in Sydney, send us a referral. We’ll confirm whether we have availability and walk you through the process before you give notice to anyone.

Common questions about switching NDIS providers

Do I need NDIS approval to switch providers?

No. Switching providers is your right under the NDIS. You do not need approval from the NDIA, your Local Area Coordinator, or your current provider. The only requirement is that you give the notice period specified in your current service agreement — typically 2 to 4 weeks.

Will I lose my funding if I switch?

No. Your NDIS plan and funding remain unchanged when you switch providers. The funding is linked to your plan, not to any specific provider. Your plan manager or support coordinator updates the service booking to reflect the new provider, but nothing is lost in the process.

How long does switching take?

Most transitions take two to four weeks from the date you give notice. If you contact Tegrity before giving notice, we will confirm our availability and coordinate the start date so your supports run continuously — no gap between providers.

What if my current provider won’t let me leave?

They have no legal basis to prevent you from leaving. If you have given the required written notice and the notice period has passed, the agreement is ended. If a provider refuses to acknowledge your notice or threatens to withhold records, contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission on 1800 035 544 or your plan manager immediately.
