Getting out and staying connected, with people you actually know
Social and community participation funding is meant to get you out into the world — to activities, outings and connections that matter. It only works if the person beside you is someone you trust. We do both the 1:1 support and a genuine weekly group.
Who it's for
This suits NDIS participants with social and community participation (or community access) funding who want to get out more — to activities, classes, the shops, the gym, or just a regular coffee — and who do better with the same familiar worker rather than a roster of strangers. We offer both one-on-one community access and a real, established group. Not sure what your funding covers? See our guide on what community participation funding can be used for.
Two ways we help you get out
Some people want one-on-one. Some want the energy of a group. Many want both. Here's how it runs.
- One-on-one community access. A consistent worker who knows what you like — walks, the gym, the library, appointments, shopping, hobbies — and helps you build the confidence and routine to do more of it.
- A real weekly group, not a centre. Our Wednesday rec group heads out together every week — beach walks, bowling, museums, ferry trips, barbecues. It has run continuously for years; new participants are welcome to come along before committing.
- Skill-building, not just hours. Community participation is about capacity — catching public transport, ordering at a cafe, joining a class — so over time you rely on support a little less, not more.
- The same faces. Whether it's 1:1 or the group, you see workers you recognise. That's what makes getting out feel possible instead of exhausting.
Questions, answered
What is social and community participation funding?
It's NDIS Core funding that pays for support to take part in social, recreational and community activities — anything from a 1:1 outing to joining a group. If your plan includes 'assistance with social and community participation' or 'community access', this is what it's for.
Can I choose group, 1:1, or both?
Both. Many participants do a regular 1:1 outing during the week and join the Wednesday group as well. You meet workers before you start and can shape what your support looks like.
Do I need to know anyone to join the rec group?
No. New participants are welcome to come along to a Wednesday outing and see how it feels before committing to anything. See the rec group page for where we go.
Which areas do you cover?
We provide community participation support across the Inner West and Inner City — Redfern, Waterloo, Newtown, Marrickville, Surry Hills, Erskineville, Alexandria and Dulwich Hill — and South-West Sydney.
